But it’s true that the vintage stills lenses were never designed with mechanised operation in mind. Several decades ago, the designers of these lenses created them to be focussed by hand, never anticipating that lenses would be driven by today’s powerful modern follow focus motors. Damage to a lens mechanism can occur if the ends of the focus range are repeatedly hit hard by these lens motors as they are forced to stop. This is especially true of older stills lenses.
Simmod Lens is today launching CineStops - an innovative accessory that effectively reduces wear and tear to the lens. The result of extensive research and development, the CineStops are clever end-stoppers that install seamlessly onto SIMple Fit Focus Gears in a few easy steps. CineStops are crafted from hardened plastic for extra durability and reliability.
Once installed, CineStops restrict the motion of the focussing ring before it causes damage to the lens mechanism. By creating a buffer before a motor exerts too much force, CineStops are a simple, yet effective, safety measure that users of vintage glass can rely on.
