Windsor, Ontario, 19 June 2023: When filmmakers are directly behind the creation of new products it shows. The new Simmod Lens PL / LPL AirTag Port Caps and Zero tip base PL lens caps, designed by cinematographer Ron Sim CSC, are purpose-built to solve real issues for working professionals. The caps demonstrate innovation and attention to detail based on his real-world experience.
Simmod Lens PL / LPL AirTag Port Caps
Don’t lose track of your valuable PL or LPL mount cinema camera. The PL and LPL AirTag Port Caps are a discreet and affordable way to add extra security to your camera. They cleverly conceal an AirTag inside a hidden compartment and look like normal caps that draw no attention.
The AirTag is fully concealed in what appears to be a regular port cap
Each cap is constructed of ABS plastic for maximum AirTag signal transmission. A threaded lid encloses the AirTag to hide it away, this screws in using two small holes that are tightened with a small spanner. Once inside a felt lining provides a snug fit and prevents the AirTag from rattling around.

Each cap comes with a choice of attractive logos, or your own custom design done with UV direct-to-substrate printing. The result is a stylish way to add extra peace of mind in an era of increased camera theft.
Full color UV logo printing of your own design is included
Perhaps the best part about the Simmod Lens PL / LPL AirTag Port Caps is the low cost of just $25 each including full UV logo printing (AirTag not included).
Simmod Lens Zero-topple custom PL lens caps
To the annoyance of many DPs, camera operators and camera assistants, it isn’t straightforward finding a PL rear lens cap that doesn’t topple over easily when standing a lens upright. Simmod Lens’ latest innovation solves this - the unique Zero-topple PL lens caps feature a whopping 63mm of rear surface area, allowing lenses to sit upright without fear of tipping.
There are two versions; one constructed of rugged high-pressure die-cast aluminum, the other made using plastic injection molding. Both options have a wider base that makes it much safer to sit a lens upright. This is also helpful during the repair and maintenance of a lens. A rubber gasket inside the cap enhances fitment on any PL lens while at the same time helping to keep dust and debris out. The cap comes with two 0.05mm shims that go underneath the gasket for fine-tuning of the fitment if needed.
Simmod Lens deliberately made their PL rear caps some of the largest available. The aluminum version weighs in at 6.5oz and is ten times heavier than a traditional plastic rear PL Cap. Designed with heavier and larger lenses in mind the added weight helps to lower the centre of gravity when a lens is stood upright.
In true Simmod Lens style the cap can be fully customized with your logo or custom artwork of your choice.
Both plastic and aluminum Rear PL Caps are available via the Simmod Lens. The price is $30 for plastic and $45 for aluminum versions. To celebrate the caps launch, Simmod Lens is offering custom engraving in full colour included for no extra cost for a limited time.
