For immediate release - Los Angeles, USA, 21 April 2022.
Tokina Cinema today announces the new 180mm T1.9 Vista Prime lens. This unique optic was specially developed at the request of cinematographers and rental houses, joining the 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 29mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 85mm, 105mm and 135mm T1.5 Vista Primes to form one of the most complete sets of lenses designed from the ground up for cinema.
The 180mm T1.9 shares the family characteristics of the other Vista primes, creating organic, yet highly detailed images. Lens distortion and chromatic aberration is virtually undetectable. There is practically no focus breathing and the lens exhibits a gentle roll-off from subject to background.
The complete Tokina Cinema Vista Prime family
The amazingly fast aperture of the 180mm T1.9 Vista Prime offers DPs new creative possibilities. It maintains the performance of the other Vista Prime lenses but with the ability to isolate subjects at a distance, presenting them with an almost three dimensional appearance. In addition a minimum focus distance of 4ft 11” (1.5m), with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:7.91, allows for beautiful close-up shots of talent.
Images are fully resolved at 8K+ resolution and cover both Vistavision and Super35 format. The 180mm T1.9 perfectly complements modern large sensor cameras like the RED V-Raptor, ARRI Alexa Mini LF, Canon C500 mkII, Sony Venice 2 and FX9.
Even though the lens is T1.9 its front still maintains a 114mm outside diameter in common with the other Vista Primes. This allows for easy attachment of a mattebox and filters. The lens is also threaded to accept 112mm filters.
Focus is internal and the lens is 19.5cm long and weighs 7.19 lbs/3.26kg (in PL mount form). It is composed of 17 elements in 14 groups, with a 9 bladed iris for rounded highlight rendering.
All Vista lenses have mounts that are interchangeable by a service facility and are available to fit PL, LPL, Sony E, EF and MFT.
Since their introduction the Tokina Cinema’s Vista Prime lenses have become a favorite of Cinematographer’s worldwide. They are now used on some of the most popular shows from Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon and the BBC.
The 180mm T1.9 Vista Prime costs $17,999 US and is available to pre-order immediately. Shipping will commence in Summer 2022.
